Post Event Catch Up

For those who don’t know, alongside running Curio Card Care, I also help run the New Forest Collectors Club with my wife and childhood friend, Gary.

Living in a semi-rural area, we found there were no local Pokémon events nearby — the closest were big shows in Southampton and Bournemouth. While those are great in their own right, they can often feel a bit overwhelming for both kids and adults… and, let’s be honest, the prices can sometimes be a little extortionate.

We realised there had to be other like-minded collectors out there who just wanted a relaxed space to trade and buy cards at fair market value. So, in March 2025, we hosted our very first Swap Meet in our local coffee shop. It was such a hit that we immediately had to move to a bigger venue — our local church hall!

We’ve now held three events there, gradually adding more vendors and services, many of whom started as regular attendees before taking the plunge to vend themselves.

This past weekend marked our fourth event, and wow — what an incredible day! Nearly 100 people came through the doors, and the hall was filled with fun, laughter, and pure Pokémon joy from start to finish. It’s become a safe, welcoming space where adults and children alike can be their true selves, celebrate their collections, and simply have a great day.

One of the most rewarding parts has been the heartfelt messages we receive afterwards — especially from parents of SEN children, thanking us for creating a space where their kids feel comfortable and included. That feedback means the world to us.

I just want to take a moment to say some thank-yous:

  • RM Collectibles – I’ve already ordered more 3D items after loving my on-the-day purchases!

  • Windy Massive

  • Dead Hand Cards

  • TreasureDex – our cheeky close friends and regular vendors!

  • PokeJess_Art – one of our OG members from day one.

  • PokeCardCanvas (Laura) – a valued Discord member who’s just launched her own art creations.

  • And last but not least, one of our biggest supporters, NerdForged. Luke and Jenni continue to provide MSRP products to the community despite the bleak landscape of sealed products at the moment. Make sure you follow them on social media and their discord!

A huge thank-you also to my friend Dan for all his help on my stand — absolute superstar — and to PokeMike and KantoKing for dropping by! Two of the nicest guys you’ll meet, and now proud to call them friends.

Of course, none of this would happen without my fellow hosts: Emily, Gary, and his daughter Sophia.

Hot News Off the Press!

Our next event is officially in the works — and it’s going to be bigger than ever!

We’ve secured a new venue, just five minutes from our current one, and it’s over double the size. Some of our favourite vendors are already confirmed, including a very exciting new local company.

🗓️ Save the date: Saturday, 31st January 2026
We can’t wait to welcome everyone back — friends old and new, kids, big kids, and everyone in between.
